Professor Peter Molan discovered another therapeutic property
only found in a very few honeys from New Zealand and Australian
Leptospermum plants. This unique active plant property which has
been identified as methylglyoxal is more stable than the enzyme
glucose oxidase and has proven reliable in its ability to inhibit
the growth of many bacteria.
Manuka Honey has been tested successfully against 80 different
pathogenic and disease causing organisms including the modern
'superbug', Golden Staph which is now resistant to antibiotics.
The strength
of active Manuka for therapeutic use ranges from 10+, which is the
minimum requirement to as high as 15+ and 20+. The higher levels
guarantee more efficient and faster results in clearing infection
and improving wound healing.
Sweet As has been tested for
both types of activity; Hydrogen Perxoide and the Unique
Leptospermum Factor ULFTM. Tested honeys are preferable to honeys
that have not undergone laboratory
testing.
